Extraordinary Homes Inspired by The Great Gatsby

The champagne-soaked soirees and opulent mansions in F. Scott Fitzgerald’s “The Great Gatsby” are, of course, legendary. With Baz Luhrmann’s new film about to hit theaters this Friday, our Coldwell Banker Previews International team couldn’t help but be tempted by our own collection of Coldwell Banker Previews  mansions that embody the essence of the Roaring Twenties: beauty, freedom, extravagance and a touch of Art Deco.

Fitzgerald supposedly conceived of the book in 1922, shortly before moving to Great Neck, Long Island. This Georgian-style mansion is not exactly in Great Neck…but it still offers spectacular views of the Long Island Sound from all living areas and the master bedroom suites. From the grand 10,228 square-foot main residence to the magnificent pool and gardens, the fictional Daisy would surely be impressed. Continue reading

Inside the Miami Home of Oscar Winner Matt Damon

matt damon photo Inside the Miami Home of Oscar Winner Matt DamonGood Will House Hunting?

Academy award winner and star of such hits as Ocean’s 11, The Bourne Trilogy and the upcoming sci-fi movie Elysium, Matt Damon, is putting his Miami mansion on the market and he’s chosen to list it with Coldwell Banker superstar agent team, The Jills.

The stunning home (pictured above) is listed for $20 million and sits on a 43,000 sq. ft. double lot. Jill Eber and Jill Hertzberg (The Jills) have called the home a “rare jewel in the heart of Miami Beach” and remark that the setting of the home is just as impressive as the beautiful design and architecture seen inside it.

The seven bedroom and ten bathroom estate also boasts 170 feet of waterfront on Biscayne Bay and features a home theatre, private terrace off the master suite, a party area on the rooftop and a two-bedroom guest house for when Ben & Jen usually stay over. The place actually reminds me a little bit of the house from Ocean’s 11 where Matt Damon, George Clooney and Brad Pitt’s characters plotted the heist of the casino.

Matt Damon’s home in North Bay is not the only celebrity home on the block as the area is coveted spot in South Florida thanks to its amazing views and private setting. It’s an area The Jills with Coldwell Banker Residential Real Estate know well as they’ve been the agents of choice for numerous high profile clientele.

For me the outdoor areas of this home are what truly makes this place exceptional. The views while sitting poolside at your private home are priceless. Plus how can you beat a place that Jason Bourne called home?

World’s Most Expensive Homes Hits the Luxury Slopes of Aspen

jigsaw ranch 1 Worlds Most Expensive Homes Hits the Luxury Slopes of AspenWelcome to the world premier of Episode 2 in the World’s Most Expensive Homes video series from Coldwell Banker Real Estate.

As we leave the sun, sand and shores of Florida from Episode 1 with Casa Casuarina, the famed mansion of Versace in Miami Beach, we head to the Rockies for the ultimate luxury mountain retreat called Jigsaw Ranch in Aspen, currently on the market for an astounding $47,000,000.

This home, listed with Brian Hazen of Coldwell Banker Mason Morse, is beyond spectacular and stands out for so many reasons. Just minutes from downtown Aspen, this “small alpine village” features rustic charm set among magnificent Evergreen trees and seamlessly integrates natural elements of the surrounding backdrop for a relaxing escape from the hustle and bustle of the world. With more than 40 acres of privacy abounds, Jigsaw Ranch offers every available amenity imaginable and leaves a lasting impression that will make you never want to leave.

From a national perspective, this must-see home speaks volumes of what you’ll find in Aspen. Coldwell Banker Previews International® released its Luxury Market Report, which measures the value of luxury real estate in today’s market. It featured Aspen ZIP code, 81611, as the No. 2 luxury real estate market for sales $10 million and above–coming behind Beverly Hills ZIP code, 90210, and top luxury market, New York City. With the gorgeous architecture, lifestyle and undeniable landscape, it’s no wonder that Aspen achieved 16 completed sales of $10 million and up in 2012 alone, trailing only the 21 sales of the same value in Beverly Hills and 41 sales in the Upper East Side of New York City for the same time period.

In fact, Aspen also ranked at No. 3 in the highest volume of listings, with 54 total listings at $10 million and above. As you may have guessed, California and New York City were the only two other markets which precede Aspen and repeatedly lead in the same price range.

The reason for the increased sales and activity in the Aspen luxury market is due to a number of contributing factors. With inventory in areas such as 81611 being at its lowest since 2009, there has been a renewed interest from higher-income brackets, followed by a rebound in wealth. Aspen home prices have reset in 2012 giving way to an increase in buyer confidence, and with that, a surplus of buyers have descended on this luxury market.

In addition to taking you inside the top U.S. luxury markets, the Luxury Market Report offers an exclusive “Luxtimate” look at how to price ultra-luxury homes and gives a sneak peek of undiscovered areas, some of which happen to be situated just outside of leading neighboring communities. If Aspen doesn’t fit your budget, try nearby Castle Pines Village, Colorado.

For more on the top cities and ZIP codes with the most luxury listings in the $1 million+, $5 million+ and $10 million+ price ranges, check out the full Coldwell Banker Previews International Luxury Market Report, available at http://www.previewsinsideout.com/luxurymarketreport2013.

Home of the Week: An Aspen Mountain Mansion

Usually I’m not a fan of a whole lot of snow. But if I’m in Aspen then it’s totally fine, especially if I’m relaxing in this winter wonderland of a home.

Located near Castle Creek, this mountain mansion is the ultimate luxury lodge with spectacular views and exceptional accommodations. Plus it’s got plenty of room for all those friends who are going to want to come and visit you in Aspen as it boasts over 23,000 sq. ft.

With 12 bedrooms and 15 bathrooms, this is quite possibly the most luxurious entertaining house in Aspen. The creek front home encompasses 67 acres of alpine forest, manicured lawns and even a waterfall or two.

There are spectacular views from pretty much every room and the floor to ceiling windows in the living areas offer scenes that would make Ansel Adams jealous. Browsing through the pictures on coldwellbankerpreviews.com, you’ll see the home has a fantastic setting in both winter and the fairer seasons. Plus with an indoor/outdoor Jacuzzi option, you can wash that really tough day on the slopes or snowmobile away in a matter of minutes.

Replica of Disney’s Haunted Mansion is Up for Sale

Replica of Disneys Haunted Mansion is Up for SaleI hated the Haunted Mansion as a kid. My first trip to Disney World I cried through most of the ride. No, I wasn’t 16 at the time. But even through the traumatic memories of the creepy elevator and the ghost that sits in your car with you, it’s hard not to marvel at what Disney created.

Someone was so impressed, they decided it was time to build a replica haunted house.

Built by a former Disney contractor, Mark Hurt, this replica Haunted House sits inside a gated community in Duluth, Georgia. The home was actually modelled to spec after the Haunted House located in Disneyland. The home also includes a matching playhouse and haunted bathroom with flickering lights.

Hurt actually lived in this home with his wife and children for several years, but has finally decided to move out. The video above gives you a look at some of the features of the home. I’m a bit disappointed that for a Haunted House of this nature they did a cheesy slideshow instead of a real video. Come on. Selling a Disney inspired home and you can’t break out some real video? I digress.

Yahoo has more details on the property in case you’re interested. I for one will not be placing an offer.

Home of the Week: A Brentwood Haven

Brentwood, Tennessee may be home to Nicole Kidman, Keith Urban and Sara Evans, but I guarantee they would love to call this place their own. Located in an exclusive community, this mansion in Brentwood is more than just a place with elaborate decor and artistic touches. It’s also a very livable home with all the right touches to match luxury with comfort.

At 7,300 sq. ft. you have plenty of room for 4 bedrooms, 4.5 baths and one of the most beautiful kitchens you’ll come across. Interestingly enough the master suite is on the bottom floor and boasts vaulted ceilings and a fireplace both in the bedroom and bathroom. Evidently it’s common practice in Tennessee to have the master bedroom on the first floor and the additional bedrooms on the second floor.

brentwoodpool 300x203 Home of the Week: A Brentwood Haven

Great pool & patio area

Speaking of the second floor, there’s a rustic billiard room just off one of the bedrooms with a plush seating area featuring leather chairs and plenty of room to make that corner shot. Having seen this home in person, I can tell you that my favorite feature is the backyard and swimming pool. There’s a screened in porch that leads out to the pool with a beautiful landscape mural on the wall.

The pool is beautifully kept and the landscaping has been placed in such a way that gives it a wonderfully secluded feel. The patio area surrounding the pool has plenty of room to make your home the ultimate hangout for a summer bbq and pool party.

My words surely don’t do this home justice, so explore this Brentwood home listed by Tom Pierce with Coldwell Banker Barnes on coldwellbankerpreviews.com.

Tour Through the True Blood Mansion

It’s the season for creatures of a scary nature and what better time to have a house on the market that is known for vampires. Fans of HBO’s True Blood may recognize this palatial estate as being home to the blood-sucking Queen Sophie Anne, but it’s actually a home set on the bluffs of Malibu. The mansion is currently listed by the #1 agent in all of Coldwell Banker Real Estate, Chris Cortazzo, for $75 million.

Michael Corbett of Extra TV featured the property the other night which you can over at ExtraTV.com. What you’ll notice is that the indoor pool that has been seen on a number of episodes of True Blood is actually contained in a totally separate mansion from the main house! Chris Cortazzo describes the home as being influenced by Italian design and architecture, and the home has some of the most beautiful views in Malibu.

According to the property description, the home is actually named La Villa Contenta and is one of the world’s premier properties that has never before listed for sale. This ultimate compound is located on approx 8 acres of the most prime bluff top that Malibu has to offer. No vampires included.
